No You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We're all part of the same compost heap. We're all singing, all dancing crap of the world -Fight Club
We all know this yet we all refuse to believe. We all want to be remembered , fight for being relevant often forgetting everybody else in the world is after the same thing. This movie tries to tell us the same message in a entirely different way.
The movie is shot continuously with continuously moving camera. I couldn't even spot a single cut from one scene to the other. When I say the movie is shot continuously it is very much engaging as well. Its packed with a lot of take away dialogues, Performances from Edward Norton , Emma Stone and Michael Keaton which made me hold my breath and still I feel that I cant didn't get enough of it.
Possible Spoilers Ahead , Proceed with caution ;)
Regan is a super hero in real life. But only when nobody is watching. He can turn off the tv with a gesture, lift anything or move anything , fly around , gravity doesn't apply to him . He is a super hero in real life but when nobody is watching. He considers him above all the other silly humans. And he is worried more about his relevance in the society than anything else. The movie makes it clear what the film is about in with just one incident which Regan narrates
Regan and George clooney happen to be on the same flight once and the it started shaking in mid air. Regan was not worried about his life or about his fellow passengers. He was thinking about how George Clooney's death would take the front page of next days news paper and his death might not even make it to the last page.
Regan decides to be relevant again and the play he directs in broadway is his last chance to fame and stardom . The film depicts the struggles he goes through during the making of the movie. While he want the actors in his play to be the best. He doesnt want them to be better than he is . He does not want anybody to steal his thunder. He gets furious if any one does.
Mike (Norton) doesnt give a flying F**k about anything at all. He is charming, witty, alcoholic Ladies man traits of a complete artist one would say. He doesnt consider Regan to be a real actor. Introduction scene of Mike went quite above my head. With a lot of things happening around Mike jumped right in centre of the movie and then on he quite stole the entire show whenever he got a chance.
When Sam (Emma Ston) was talking to her dad ( Keaton)about the little pot smoking incident , the camera was moving all around her face. Some times it was even moving too close to the lips and Emma was not pretty any more , If Emma stone cannot be pretty nobody can be pretty when the camera is that close. But that made the dialogue delivery a lot more memorable.
